Mr. Kogan spent the first part of his career working in New Jersey for other orthotic and prosthetic companies such as Hanger Orthopedic Group and NovaCare. In February of 2001, he started his own company, Contemporary Prosthetics and Orthotics, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. He took care of the needs of patients at six different hospitals and several nursing homes. Despite having a 3000 sq ft facility, he found himself making house calls 90% of the time.

In 2002, Mr. Kogan was injured in an automobile accident requiring spinal surgery and 1.5 years of physical therapy. He had to close down his NJ business. Although his surgeon told him he would be at a desk job for the rest of his life, he worked hard and pushed himself during his rehabilitation to the point of being able to open another prosthetics and orthotics business, this time in Jamison, Pennsylvania.

With the support of his wife and daughter, Kogan Prosthetics, Inc. was born. Acknowledging the difficulties that many of his patients have getting to a medical office, he created Kogan Prosthetics with a new business model. Not wanting to have the distant feel of a large multi-chain corporation, he built a new 1000 sq ft facility for fabrication and administration only. Mr. Kogan would then treat his patients in the comfort of their own home. Thus, he made a mobile prosthetics and orthotics lab by restoring a 1948 Ford F-1 panel truck. In addition, he extended his hours to include evenings, so as not to interfere with a patient’s job requirements.

It has been these considerations and the high quality of his work that continue to drive him and his company to a successful future. His primary concern is to improve the quality of life for his patients by supplying or crafting functional medical devices that minimize the effect on normal daily lifestyles.
